From Texas to Maryland.
I'm finally leaving Texas and going to Maryland. I had a great time in Texas with Anthony! Was super fun to compete in Texas again. But of course, I failed to get sub 9 again...first round average was 9.66 and I plus 2'd my last solve. If I hadn't, my average would have been 9.00, doh! And in the finals I finished with 9.17 messing up my cross right away on the last solve. Seems it's just about impossible for me to finally get sub 9. But one day....and hopefully that day is tomorrow. One thing I really wish would stop happening at competitions is people saying right before my solves things like: "Oh, dude, if you don't mess up you'll get sub 9!", "Dude, you can't get sub 9. It's impossible", "hey, are you finally going to sub 9 today?" and my personal favorite "Just don't mess it up!" very frequently (probably every competition I go to) I have people saying things like this. And I understand it's supposed to be a joke, but really? Right before I'm about to start inspection? Of course I'm going to mess it up. You're forcing me to think about all the possible outcomes right before I start the solve. It's quite frustrating, because I also don't know how to tell people to stop since it's normally 10+ people and they are all in the audience. Guess I'll just get over it.
Overall, the week in Texas was quite fun. Something I've found very interesting going from state to state is the different architectures of buildings. Something about how each state designs buildings/bridges/other things is interesting to me. It's really too bad I don't have more time in each state because it'd be cool to go around and do some photography if I had some free time. But maybe next time.
While I've been in Texas I started editing the Skillcon video (the video I made in Las Vegas) and it's coming together really nicely. Can't wait to show everyone this video. I've already previewed it to a friend and he said: "i've watched it three times and I love it, so entertaining man. Kinda beautiful really" so it should be a good one!
